Increasing the Social Acceptance of Wind Energy
Wind4Bio addresses a key inhibitor pertaining to the proliferation of wind energy in the territories of Western Greece, Latvia and Poland, namely the concerns expressed by local communities over the impact of wind power installations on biodiversity. Wind4Bio will work for the convergence of wind energy and biodiversity policies and practices, put in place dialogue mechanisms with the civil society and concerned stakeholders, and improve collaboration with the wind energy sector at local level. It will essentially develop a wind energy approach addressing all dimensions of the “Climate-Biodiversity-Public opinion” nexus, to be employed by public authorities in collaboration with NGOs, the civil society, and the wind energy sector (i.e. target groups), via the following key activities: capacity building workshops, dialogue and consensus building events, exchanges of experiences (incl. a site visit), development of a biodiversity risk mitigation framework and consultation mechanisms, and a sectoral voluntary code of conduct.
