Abstract

In this paper, we describe the design and the
implementation of an adaptive streaming architecture,
which is based on real time protocols. The adaptive
streaming application, which we have developed, can
be used for streaming multimedia data over
heterogeneous networks like the Internet and has the
capability to adapt the streaming of multimedia data to
network changes. The adaptive streaming application
uses a friendly to the network users congestion control
mechanism to control the transmission of the media.
We evaluate the adaptive streaming application
through a number of experiments. During these
experiments, we demonstrate the friendly behaviour of
the adaptive streaming application to TCP and UDP
data streams.
