As a result, efficient management of the available network resources becomes a critical issue both from a functional point of view, so that users can be provided with the bandwidth they need, and an economical point of view, so that carriers can satisfactorily and efficiently serve as many customers as possible. The work presented here attempts to face from a practical point of view the problem of bandwidth management in ATM networks, especially in cases where the available resources have to be shared among many users with conflicting needs. We have designed and implemented a Managed Bandwidth Service (MBS) that allows users to make multiple bandwidth reservations throughout the topology of the network infrastructure to which they have access. This MBS also provides an administrative module for configuring and monitoring the service{\textquoteright}s operation. In this paper we present the MBS developed and all the implementation issues related to it, as well as our on-going and future work on the service.}, author = {Christos Bouras and Vaggelis Kapoulas and Afroditi Sevasti and Chrysa Chantzi and Ioanna Sampraku} }
